Family Medicine Residency Program in Madisonville, Kentucky HealthTalks Transcript
Samantha Hays, MD:
The Family Medicine Residency Program here at Baptist Health Madisonville is a training program for family medicine physicians. Every physician has to go through a training program called residency. Depending on the specialty you’re in, it lasts a different amount of time. We offer all the same services that a practicing physician would offer.
The main difference is that we have more supervision because we are in training. We do have an attending physician who works over us, and an attending physician is someone who is practicing and has that experience so they can help train us that way.
Theresa Ruddell, Madisonville, Kentucky:
I started with the Family Practice Residency program because it was convenient, easily accessible and I knew that I would have good care.
My experience with my family practice resident has always been a good experience. I know that my physician is up on all the current trends, and I know that I’m getting good care and also have a backup with an attending physician.
I was drawn to the program here at Madisonville because I was a student here. I actually went through University of Louisville through their Rural Track, so we complete our third and fourth clinical years here at Baptist Health Madisonville, and I just fell in love with it. It is a small town, but it offers amazing medical services for the size of the town.
