Everything You Need to Know About Virtual Healthcare

As cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) have been increasing throughout the United States, Baptist Health is committed to ensuring the safety and health of all of our patients.

If you’re sick or think you’re sick, take advantage of Baptist Health Virtual Care in an effort to minimize unnecessary visits to your provider’s office, which can also decrease the spread of illness and/or infection of many conditions, including COVID-19.

What is Virtual Care?

Virtual care refers to healthcare services that take place through communications technology services. Virtual healthcare visits at Baptist Health include E-Visits, urgent care video visits, and scheduled video visits.

Virtual Visit

A virtual video visit allows you to securely connect with a Baptist Health provider via your smartphone, tablet or computer’s camera feature – you will discuss face-to-face with your provider your symptoms, and he/she will provide treatment if needed.

E-Visit

An eVisit allows a patient to fill out a symptom-specific questionnaire which is submitted to a Baptist Health provider for evaluation and treatment. The provider may also call you to discuss your condition or illness.

Is Virtual Care Covered by Insurance?

Across most insurance providers, virtual care visits are covered due to the current health crisis. Currently, visits are billed to health insurance companies and no co-pay will be collected after the appointment. In the instance that a patient does not have insurance or does not have virtual care visits covered, Baptist Health will mail a $40 bill to the patient.

Is My Medical Information Secure?

Baptist Health takes great care to ensure your health information is kept private and secure. Access to information is controlled through secure activation codes, personal usernames, and passwords. Each person controls their password, and their account cannot be accessed without that password.

Unlike conventional e-mail, all MyChart messaging is done while you are securely logged on to our website. MyChart is owned and operated by Baptist Health and is fully compliant with federal and state laws pertaining to your privacy. Your name and e-mail address will be treated with the same care and privacy given to your health records and will never be sold or released by MyChart.

What Technology Do I Need?

To get the most out of your virtual care visit, you should have the following:

• A telephone line
• Internet connection
• Video access through a tablet, smartphone or computer 
• MyChart and Zoom apps – make sure these are downloaded beforehand

How to Prepare for Your Virtual Care Visit

Virtual Care provider video visits and E-Visits can treat many of the same conditions that are treated at Urgent Care clinics or provider offices.

Here are some things you can do ahead of time to prepare:

• Fill out all appropriate forms
• Make sure your information is up to date
• Jot down any symptoms or feelings you may have that you want to discuss

If you have any of the following symptoms, consider scheduling a video visit or filling out an E-Visit questionnaire:
