Heart Failure Clinic in Louisville, KY

At the Baptist Health Heart Failure Clinic here in
Louisville, we work with patients and their families

to help them understand their disease, the treatment
options and managements that we have for them,

and assist them in going about their care.

The American College of Cardiology, which is our large,
accrediting body for anything that's in cardiology,

we sought for an accreditation for outpatient services
for heart failure,

and we were the first clinic in the
country to get that.

Our typical patient has a diagnosis of heart failure.

And that can be either because their pump doesn't work
appropriately, it's weak,

or because they have pressure problems.

And then there's really two different types of heart
failure, but we see any type of heart failure

here in the clinic.

Our initial visit is very unusual for most patients,
because it's about an hour to an hour and a half,

doing a full physical exam.

We also spend a lot of time going through the medical
record, and we pull up all of their images and show it

to them, their CAT scans or ECHOs,
and we go over everything

so that we're all on the same page,
and we know what the diagnosis is

and what direction we're going.

The Heart Failure Clinic is comprehensive.

So we include myself, but we also have a nurse,
we have a nurse practitioner, we have a pharmacist.

And that is all intended to make sure that every part
of the patient's care is covered.

So, our goal here at the Baptist Health Heart Failure
Clinic is to learn the patient's goals and help them

live their best life.
