Tara Meredith, APRN, Pediatrics, Hopkinsville:
The components of a well-child visit include several things, assessing behavior concerns, developmental milestones, growth charting, immunizations, and just an overall view of your child’s health.
There [are] ages for well-child checkups. There are a lot of them. Usually, under age 2 1/2, they’re very frequent, starting at 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, and then every few months until the age of 3. After the age of 3, it is recommended that it’s done yearly.
Immunizations are a big part of well-child visits. The CDC has several vaccines that are recommended for particular age groups. With well-child visits, the shots that are due at that age will be discussed. Informational sheets will be given. Immunizations are good to help provide immunity to prevent possibly being infected with a disease. They’re a good preventive resource.
It’s nice that we now have a pediatric office here in Hopkinsville. This can be a real convenience for parents, being local. Kids are fun. You never know what they’re going to say. They’re all different. They all grow and develop differently. They’re just fun. Kids are just fun.
