- [Dr. Williams] Magseed is a device we use to find
breast cancer in the operating room.

Most women are diagnosed with breast cancer that is not
palpable,

as in we can't feel it when we go to take it out.

So, if they want a partial mastectomy or only the
cancer removed from their breasts,

we have to have a way to find it in the operating room.

And this is the minimally invasive way.

The old way we used to do it was a wire that was
actually placed in a woman's breast.

It was very uncomfortable.

It was not as reliable.

It left a lot more room for human error.

- [Dr. Simons] Magseed allows us to place that
localizer in the days prior to the surgery,

which really expedites that surgical intervention on
the day of.

And then there's no external piece,
so there's nothing to get displaced or to be

uncomfortable for the patient.

- So the benefits to patients are that
it's a much more comfortable procedure.

It's less painful.

It takes less time the day of surgery.

Magseed decreases anxiety around
their breast cancer surgery.

I think when someone's diagnosed with breast cancer we
have to treat them, both their physical well-being and

their mental well-being.

The ultimate goal is to treat a patient's cancer,
to take her cancer out and get her the treatment she

needs so that she can move on with her life,
and not have to worry about it.

Magseed is an incredible new technology in terms of
breast cancer care.

This was only available in big cities a few years ago,
and we already have it here.

And, we're doing things here that aren't even being
done at some major cancer operation centers.

It's pretty incredible.
