Medication-assisted treatment, also known as MAT, is the evidence-based use of medications in conjunction with behavioral therapies and support services to treat substance use disorder. Medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorder has been around for many years. There have been numerous studies that have shown that it is effective, but it’s often stigmatized and underutilized, and access to quality treatment is limited. Clinical research has shown that a combination of MAT and behavioral health therapies can help treat substance use disorders, prevent overdose, and aid in sustaining recovery.

We recognize that individuals with substance use disorders have different needs, and no treatment plan is identical. Here at Baptist, we have a variety of what we call “tools in the toolbox,” and we will collaborate with a patient to see what best fits their needs and what’s in line with their goals. We link patients with other care providers as needed, and we actively connect them with their recovery support team.

Here at Baptist Health Richmond, patients who are coming in for a consultation can expect to be met with compassion without judgment. Our goal is just to get patients into care. We use MAT as one of our tools to support patients on their individual road to recovery. You don’t need a referral. All you have to do is pick up the phone and make the call.
