Substance Abuse Outpatient Programs in Richmond, Kentucky HealthTalks Transcript
Charlotte Allison, LPCC, Behavioral Health:
Baptist Health Richmond currently offers substance abuse assessments and an intensive outpatient program for substance use disorders. Our IOP consists of group therapy. It’s held four days a week for three hours a day, and we focus on addiction treatment. It’s for anyone who has a substance use disorder. We focused a lot on relapse prevention and changing lifestyle and behaviors to promote sobriety. Therapy is not about giving advice. It’s about helping somebody reach their full potential.
We all get a second chance, and it’s given me the opportunity to experience things that I missed all the years that I was drinking and all the years that I was deep in addiction. So many things were taken away from me due to my own actions. Now I get a chance to do them all again. I get to experience them for a second time, and it’s a wonderful feeling.
For folks in the community who have either dealt with addiction firsthand or have been impacted by substance abuse, my message to them is that there is treatment and support right here in this community.
I’m a firm believer that without Baptist Health and the people associated with the clinic here I wouldn’t be here today. I wouldn’t be on this planet today.
